Great Keppel Island lies off the Capricorn Coast in central Queensland in the north of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef lies nearby on the seaward side and Great Keppel Island itself is surrounded by beautiful fringing coral reefs. The island features many glorious bays, headlands and snug beaches and is a popular recreational boating area. Twenty years ago Great Keppel Island was among the most popular of the Queensland islands as a tourist destination however, over time, the main resort on the island had fallen into a state of disrepair. The island now is in a state of transformation with the main resort, that has been their for generations, being demolished and a new one now in the planning stages. Great Keppel Island lies on the Discovery Coast in central Queensland, just near Rockhampton and close to the mainland town of Yeppoon.
